2/6 Wander, Gays & Handball parades

Adolf IV - went from ruler/knight to preacher.  Great statue.

Kiel was pretty much destroyed in WW2.  This is one of the nicest 'old' buildings.

Gay parade, great band. Below view from our room as they went past

No words really

Saturday 2nd
What a breakfast!! The Germans are all pretty good but add smoked salmon, cappuccino and fluffy mini croissants! Fantastic. We took off for a remedial stroll and wandered round Kiel, finding a couple of interesting churches and some statuary, including Adolph IV, who vowed during a particularly fierce battle that he would take up the cloth, and became a luminary and patron of the Church. The statue depicted him in an interesting state of shaking off his armour while pulling the clerical robe over his head.
We found a really enticing little shop selling delicious looking snacks and small meals. We allowed ourselves a crispy roll with herring fillet and onion and cream sauce. Similar to what we had had with Elisabeth and very tasty. We found Cass and Steph on Skype and were watching via the webcam  the ship leaving Copenhagen on its way here. We found the spot where the rear camera might catch somebody standing on Deck 14 and were talking of posing there to wave for the children.
We then blundered into what looked like Kiel’s version of Christopher Day. The same mob were out in all their finery and we sat back end indulged in “what is that?” until the band started up and they all paraded off down the street. We spent a lot of time thinking about the next 3 months, costing an intensive Cruise-a-thon and researching air fares round Asia. Beginning to lean towards the latter.
There was a hubbub of activity at the sports arena, where the local handball team was playing in the Grand Final. The spectators were milling around our hotel and we squeezed our way into the Subway downstairs and shared a chicken teriyaki – healthy! As we emerged, the local team (which had won) paraded past in the back of convertibles, including the Zebra mascot. The mob surged forward and almost blocked the road. We finished the evening on the internet.
