Tuesday 18th Yes, still
at sea
We woke up an hour late but gymmed
until 11. We had the same team for trivia and whupped ass again despite another
very full house and fresh questions. At the risk of appearing arrogant, this
time I sang You Can’t Stop the Music. Could tomorrow be the day the music died?
There was more input from everyone today and it is hard to see why more teams
didn’t get big scores. Karen is bright and voluble like Hannah but toned down and
not quite scatty. We haven’t seen her go for music questions yet. She was
obviously happy to be winning the logo merchandise and she does her little
Stirring Dance when she gets an answer right. We got Tshirts today already!
We had a very quick lunch and J
shot off to the destination talk. We now have a couple of hours before part 2
of the cumulative trivia. Watching a Japanese couple doing a snappy tango to
Beatles music in the foyer.
Part 2 seemed to go well for us. We
got 11 of 12 word diagram puzzles (STAND on top of “2” is “To understand”) and
did well in the general knowledge. This time the whole team really fired up and
several of the answers were the product of synergy with different people
contributing to the solution. There were some 3 point questions which hopefully
didn’t both go to the same team for guessing the speed of the Earth and the
length of its orbit. The last leg is tomorrow.
We finally got to spend some time
in the solarium and saw a lifebuoy go past – apparently they throw them
oversides sometimes as part of crew training. We had the Rhapsody in sight all
day and the ships crossed over before lunch. Apparently they have older
navigational equipment and are sailing straight line while we are sailing
according to the curve of the Earth.
We watched the Piano Man production
show again after dinner and then we had TriBond with our sports team plus Alan
the Kiwi. We had won that one last time and many of the questions were the same
but the team worked them out by themselves and we ended up with a perfect score
and a clear conscience. Another set of Tshirts – we are afraid they will come after
us with 6 lumps of lead tomorrow morning. We gain another hour tonight. I left
a message on the board asking if anybody knew the footy result and tonight
there was a reply – apparently Collingwood won L
Wednesday 19th The last
sea day
And C’s Mum’s birthday and their
wedding anniversary. Totally normal day. Lost the morning trivia on the 3rd
tiebreak and J took in the destination talk and learned not to remove any rocks
on pain of being punished by the goddess Pele. The afternoon saw the 3rd
and final leg of the Progressive Trivia, the ultimate prize. We had a very
difficult sheet of anagrams of the names of “famous” popstars like Engelbert
Humperdinck and Sophie Ellis Bexter and Shakin Stevens. We knew we had started
a few points ahead of the field but we already had double points for our chosen
topic and there were a couple more categories today. The team worked really
well again and we shot home 11 points clear with 82.
Nikki brought us champagne, medals
and bags and joined us for a drink. We were relieved that several of the other
teams stopped to congratulate us on the way out because we have been winning
nearly everything. Nikki will be leaving the ship in Perth a few days after we
get home so we might get to see her.
We took in the evening show (2
Argentinian comics) and then went to the Pirate trivia with our sports team.
Hey we won again – caps this time – dragged our booty back to the cabin and
fell asleep.
