Sunday 11 September At sea
One week to Rio and two weeks to Christmas. More of the same today –gym/brekky/walk/stretch/silly games/non-quiz (didn’t hear the start and missed 4 questions so we didn’t bother)/lunch/movie (Star Wars 2009)/nap.
We turned out for the afternoon quiz, which was very pleasant next to the pool. We are now well into the tropics and a few people are going to be very sore tonight. They were looking for people to read the questions in various languages and I happened to be around so I got to sit on the stage and read the English version. This earned me another bloody bandanna! The questions were the sort of general knowledge trivia we are used to but J was with the Pommie aircrew and they didn’t go so strong on that. I wouldn’t have helped them with the two they didn’t know. I was very restrained reading out “which country does Qantas belong to” but when I had to read it for the third time as the answers were disclosed I roared out “Strileya ya bewdy” - and was then asked to do it again. Told them I was Basil from Brazil.
And so to dinner. Mexican – not bad. We have been eating the pasta bolognaise option the last few nights and they really do it very well. This is something extra that Italians eat before the main course. The dessert was an irresistible combination of Kahlua, coffee icecream, cream and grated chocolate. We went crazy and had a coffee afterwards. They are actually quite cheap and we haven’t started on the cabin credit yet.
Tonight they put on the passenger talent show. The usual mix of people with talent, people having a laugh and people suffering delusions. It made for two 90 minute sessions - we saw the second show and the final 2 acts of the first. A couple dragged on but there were some very good performances too – the 16 year old Sethefrican did Titanic (My heart will go on), an old Pom did Elvis and there was a very good Spanish Christian singer too. The shows closed with a raunchy 6’3” drag artist and an operatic soprano respectively – quite a contrast.
