Saturday 17 December Cabo Frio
Slept in just a bit today, brekky and a stroll round deck 14, watching the boat manoeuvre through the lush offshore islands and moor in the bay facing a startlingly white beach and a bit of a city behind. Just on the other side of the peninsula is the little tourist town of Buzios, Brazil’s answer to St Tropez or Cannes. It was “discovered” by Brigit Bardot in the 60s – they have a statue to her.
Maestro and the violinist were up on the 14th as well. We always see them together but keeping a scrupulous distance. This morning they seemed to be having some sort of issue and he hauled her over to the railing and put his arms round her from behind. Then he seemed to have a rush of blood and it was almost time to send the children inside.
For the first time on this cruise, we had to get ashore by tender. It was a bit choppy and they had 4 solid Islanders standing where the boat nuzzles(? more like bashes) up to a platform sticking out of the side of the boat at water level to basically heave people across the gap. We didn’t go ashore until after lunch and shared the tender with Rafael, leader of the Entertainment section (or Animators as they call them) and his girlfriend. Then on the way back from town to the jetty, we followed Enzo the 50 something Entertainment Director who was making sweet with the girl who is in charge of the children. You could say “Blame it on Rio” but we only arrive there tomorrow.
The tender delivered us a fair distance up river. It looked a little like Mandurah with some canals veering off the main river.
It was hot walking into the main shopping area. Not a lot to see or do, it is mainly here because of the beaches and watersports.

Tis almost Christmas
The afternoon entertainment was all cancelled because there was nobody there. On Cunard they would have handed out prizes to anyone who was there. So we wandered down to the stateroom to fill in forms and start packing *sniff*.
