30/11 Train to Venice again ...

Wednesday 30 November

Well the Venice forecast is fine and clear for the next few days. Who knows – we might even get to see St Mark’s on the way out?  Up at 8, packed, finalised blog with mega photo collection. Just as we were due to leave, we found Steph on Skype and she put Alyssa on video for our entertainment. That was a huge treat.

We humped the bags to the station with one rest stop. We were 2 hours early but we had rations so we caught the local train across town to where the regional train leaves. Not sure why because it came from the same direction anyway. Oh well. There were 3 pizza shops and a bar at the station and we availed ourselves a couple of times to pass the time. The train arrived and our carriage duly stopped right in front of us. We lugged the kit aboard and lifted it over the other large bags stowed in the passage and off we went.

The journey passed according to plan, just that we passed through a big patch of thick fog about an hour short of Venice, but it cleared after a few minutes. We had a very nice room at the same place we had stayed before (actually in a different building). Very good views over the church and the square. We had a longish walk to St Mark’s, noticing that the canals were very low and a tad whiffy in places. Stocked up on Baileys (E9.99 this time) and some limoncello, apparently an Italian speciality meant to be served with something like lemonade or maybe soda.
