11/2 A flat tyre in barren countryside

Saturday 11 February    Drive day

Very full day grinding up the famour R40 through Argentina, just east of the Andes and the Chilean border. Flat and dry and empty. Bob threw a flat or started chucking a retread -  anyway needed a tyre changed. This wasn’t all bad as we then stopped 90 minutes earlier than planned in a campsite in the town of Perito Moreno instead of carrying on to a bush camp.

The country side is totally barren., only low clumps of grasses with nothing over knee high.  It is fenced farmland with us occasionally seeing sheep.  There are never any snakes or lizards near the roads.  The only wildlife sighted occasionally is the rhea (like an emu), guanaco and a few birds.
