14/1 Long day driving through fertile farmland

Saturday 14th January

Up at 5.30.Watched some campers returning from the shops, walk straight into the brekky buffet and fill up. But when Gordon arrived at 6.20 and opened the cupboard he was told no – wait until 7. The office actually opened near 7 today but they hadn’t managed to get the internet running by 8 when we left, not even their own computer room. Strangely, the people with tablets and iphone thingies were all online.

Long days drive through deep rich green farming land. Hard to recognise the crops but looking very good.   They are legumes, but unsure what type, perhaps Soya.  Took the opportunity to study the list of activities later in the trip – huge selection of things to do, mostly at reasonable prices. Many involve hiking so we had better up our effort and start walking with packs. Also saw the 2012-13 itineraries for Africa – very reasonable.

The 3 girls were ratshit this morning. All stayed very quiet all day and mostly slept on the bed at the front.  Tim loaned me his tablet so I got to practice Risk for an hour or so playing against the computer.

We are at a big service station for the night. Lots of soft green grass for the tents and goodish toilets. (for the men, the womens has 1 cubicle, is blocked and has a sign that it doesn't work).  I am going to be very nostalgic after this trip and will probably make some changes back home. The bed has to go and we will install a bucket next to the toilet to start our collection of used toilet paper. Naturally, we will be open to passing truckies.

J is consulting with Tab about menus so the cooking cycle is ready to restart. A local who came to look and chat said much of the crop is soya, which was our guess.
