Friday 13th . . . will it be lucky?

Maybe best for Peter to stay in bed today? It is still gloomy.

Keen to see how the 3rd test in Perth is going today, also to get a reply to an enquiry about a boat to Europe from Miami. But the clowns in the office haven’t managed to get the internet up yet. Gordon went in to ask and they said it must be his laptop because their system is fine. Then they said come back later because they are busy doing their accounts. Welcome to Fawlty Towers. At least they do a very good brekky.

Very good news on the cricket and the boat. We went for a 2 hour stroll to the far end of town, being intermittently drizzled on. Some interesting and creative curios – we solved the riddle of the dot paintings, which we saw again among other schtuff which was clearly of Indonesian origin. So it is almost certainly not a Brazilian product and there is no reason to doubt that it is unique to Aborigines. Bought an avocado, which we have heard being much praised and hurried back to hostel to eat it. It was a lovely avocado but lacking flavour L

The cave outing was cancelled due to slippery conditions. People who went on the river outing reported not being allowed to wear sunscreen or shampoo, not to ground their feet in the riverbed, etc etc and generally redolent of the typical over-regulated interpretated Australian site. A day and a half here would have been plenty.

The youngsters went tubing this afternoon and had a great time, although it was quite a short trip.

We went wild and had dinner at the camp tonight – apricot chicken with spaghetti. The hard core stayed in and played drinking games – more of that tomorrow.
