20/1 Buenos Aires

Friday 20 January to Buenos Aires

J was up by 6 to do brekky, which again spoiled everyone with thick apple pancakes. The scenery was a bit more sparse today – mainly scrub and some plantations. We stopped for lunch about an hour short of BA and then drove into the city along wide leafy boulevards which were strongly European styled (not surprisingly). We could see the Argentine equivalent of a Fevola below us as we went across an overpass but by and large the city seems brighter and cleaner than Rio. So far.

The hostel is large and well run. Very organised. They want to take us for a 4 hour bus ride (YESS) at 6am to spend the day on a beach before watching a soccer game featuring the BA team that starts at 10pm. Then another 4 hours back on a bus. And all that for $110. Sam is trying to sign us up for activities some way down the track. There is a huge variety of things to do on this trip . . but doing them all would be very costly.

We raided the local supermarket for baguette, ham and cheese, tomato and an avocado and ate in. It had been a long time and we really enjoyed it – depends on getting a good fresh loaf. Back in time for the end of Happy Hour – Richard bought J a Cuba Libra. The youngsters then all headed off for the party at the sister hostel down the road and we had an early night.
