9/3 Hills and ills

Fitfull sleep.  Basic brekky at 8am.  More people had become ill overnight.  We set off for a morning stroll downhill, zigzagging across the town.  Located some more quite beautiful buildings.
Cerro Rico at end of street

Pedestrian mall - very clean town

Several armed police/security outside all banks

Cathedral from 2 different angles. Pic above and below

Shops often do business through grills in poor areas.
Can clearly see the mining activities on the outside of Cerro Rico, it really has been stripped.  We decided not to tour the mines as conditions in them have not improved since the early days and they are considered quite dangerous.  They say the miners only live for 10 to 15 years after first entering the mines to work.  Most contract lung conditions from the dust and vapors in the tunnels.

Very nice lunch at Cherry cafe.
We have been captivated by the women's headwear and colourful clothing/shawls, often containing baby or shopping etc.

Spent the afternoon researching and planning our onward trip.  Quite exciting times to come.
Statue of Liberty replica in main square

Dinner at 4060 cafe where we had dinner last night.  Dessert was a chocolate fondue.
