Thursday 10 Mykonos
Our first Greek island this year.
We cruised in during the stretch class to a thinly-populated part of the
island. Brekky, morning trivia (won by ten points!!) and then we wandered out
into the fierce wind to wait for the public bus rather than pay 3 times as much
for the shuttle service. The town of Mykonos was quite delightful – the classic
whitewashed buildings with churches scattered liberally in between, the vivid
blue of the roofs echoing the crystal clear waters. Mykonos is known for its
windmills – there were 5 on the seafront although they had no fabric in their
vanes. So fierce was the wind that they would otherwise have been shredded or
the wheels would have flown off their mountings.
We found an internet place and
discovered that our home insurance has lapsed – we have the feeling that the
same happened last year. Then we FINALLY got an email from the cretins at Air
Asia – although not in response to our repeated emails and chat enquiries with
their staff – this was just them finally getting round to addressing the
subject. The default will be that they will put us on Air Malaysia on the same
date. We haven’t checked to see how that impacts our connection through to
Perth. We would be half inclined to delay by a few days to give us the
opportunity to drop in at the Somme battlefields near Paris to have a look at
the Aussie and Sethefrican memorials at Delville Wood and Villers-Bretencourt
anti-respectively. This if they would delay the connecting flight as well. Last
night we watched the new film depicting Australian soldiers setting off a HUGE
mine underneath the German lines on day 1 of the Somme offensive.
J has taken a headache to bed after
lunch – you will be proud to hear that we didn’t attend 3 trivia sessions
today. We finally got to sit with the
youngsters in the afternoon trivia and finished several points off the pace. We
chose simple options for dinner and had another early night, preparing for
tomorrow.
