Thursday 3rd May
Sardinia sandwich
We woke and enjoyed a very pleasant
cabin brekky then went up just in time to watch the boat slip through the
strait between Corsica and Sardinya. We hadn’t realised just how large they are
or how close together. The boat had to curve between overlapping headlands and
offshore islands to get through and the Reception office told us that in
rougher weather they don’t even try to get through but make a long detour
around. It was tight in terms of a 200 metre boat.

Sardinia - above & below
This took some time, which we spent
up on the smallish pool deck, before going down for lunch in the cabin (ooops
forgot to mention the croissants with ham and cheese). Now we are up in the
lounge waiting for someone to come and ask us trivia questions (this isn’t going to
happen but it feels as though it should). We have decided NOT to spend the next
cruise chasing around after trivia quizzes because it takes too much time and
we really really really don’t have any space to cram in any more inane prizes.
All but two days are in port and we have a balcony again so we should be able
to fill up our time.
We had good intentions (sigh) of
walking the decks and climbing stairs (this boat even has a good gym and
wellness/pampering centre) but we found ourselves lazing in the lounge
listening to medleys of Michael Jackson and other 70/80s music. As always
happens when the internet is off, this gave rise to gzillions of pressing
questions – is Robin Gibb dead yet? Who was the English comic who did such a
delicious sendoff of the BeeGees, which reduced them to tears of delight? Who
sang Oh what a night? Love Grows? Bye bye baby? And what about That’s the way
(uhuh uhuh)? Sorry to do this
to you because I know this is going to torture you until you know . . . but
relief is at hand, as the saying goes, just read on.
We have been ejected from our
mini-cabin to facilitate cleaning and are now sitting in the reclining chairs
section waiting for disembarkation in just under an hour. Most of the others
and their luggage are 3 floors higher up but the staff took pity on the sweet
old man with the huuuge suitcases and we have been allowed to stay down here
near the escalators.
We were almost first off the ship,
took a free shuttle out of the port to bar Barbagio, where we borrowed a phone
to call the hostel to fetch us (in a Fiat 500 LMAO). It’s a lovely B&B with
really nice furniture and a great bathroom (except the toilet doesn’t flush).
The only other guest in tonight is an Aussie from Sydney who speaks some
Italian and lots of Polish, which suits the hostess. We sat and chatted while
snacking on olives, soft cheese and Limoncello. Sorry, the answers to all the
above will have to be in tomorrow’s blog.
Ooooh by the way, we have signed up
for online Lotto so now we are just killing time until we collect the $70m on
Tuesday.
