Monday 14th November Alexandria again
Stretch and Fab Abs. Announcement for crew to stand by emergency stations. Didn't sound like a drill. Then announcement that the gangways are closed – this in the middle of unloading hundreds of people for bus trips to Cairo for the Pyramids. Went down to our balcony for a look – one of the gangways was hanging in the water!!! Nobody seemed hurt. The ship had drifted away from the quay and it fell in. Some performance to get it back in the narrow little hole in the hull. Heaps of officers lined up on the end of the bridge. Suspect the captain will order our immediate promotion to Platinum membership once she realises we have photos of the gangway dangling in the water.
Won the 11.30 quiz then headed off to Alexandria. The library is still closed and we discovered that the rain has flooded large areas of town. The Poms are whingeing about it no end. We walked all the way to the Archaeological Museum and back. Spent the remaining Egyptian pounds on a Tshirt and scarf.
Joaquim (Head Waiter) had organised a Goan banquet which was delicious. Apparently Stephie is in quarantine with Frank hovering over her. We finished with Chocolate Decadence which was unutterably perfect. Watched the Dixieland jazz night which was lacklustre. Early night. The boat was not able to leave port due to high winds.
